Teaching our Kids yoga class is...the talented and lovely Laura Kolisnyk!
My greatest joy has always been children. I began teaching dance at the age of fourteen and over the years have added musical theatre, acting and now yoga! An honours graduate from the University of Winnipeg Theatre department I have been performing, choreographing and assistant directing children's show's with Koba Entertainment for the past ten years. I have brought smiles to millions of little faces performing all over North America, Korea, The United Arab Emirates and Europe. My love of yoga began years six years ago after a serious injury to my foot. I have been fortunate to take classes all over the world but love my yoga family at Stafford Street Hot Yoga best of all! I am delighted to be able to combine my passions and teach yoga to kids!
First class begins this saturday, Oct. 27th! SIgn up now:)

This class is 60 min, parents are welcome to relax in our comfy lounge during class, or drop off their kids for the hour.
Bring some water and wear comfy clothes that are easy to stretch and move around in. Shorts and t shirt or tank top are likely most comfortable.
This class will encourage hatha yoga postures, some taken from the Bikram series, some movements to keep it fun and interesting. Kids will grasp quickly basic etiquette for doing yoga postures in a yoga room. It is an excellent opportunity to get them excited about a self care program that they can use the rest of their lives! Very enriching, character building and physically accessible but also challenging to help balance their bodies for a healthy future:)
Taught by Laura Kolisnyk -Bikram yoga student, child animator and teacher
October Schedule Info
We're just posting a little update to keep everyone at SSHY "in the know..."
Thanksgiving Weekend class times at SSHY will be as follows:
Friday - normal (6am/9:30am/4pm/6pm)
Saturday - normal (8:30am/1030am/2pm WOMEN ONLY class/4pm)
Sunday - normal (8:30am/10:30am/4:00pm)
Monday (October 8) - 9:30am and 4:00pm classes ONLY.
For the month of October, we will be running the Thursday 6am classes in the same spirit of the Tuesday classes: a supervised playback of a Bikram class recorded in 1992, taught by Bikram himself. All experienced yogis are welcome to come, provided you have attended a number of Bikram classes and feel comfortable in your practice. If you are enthusiastic about seeing this class return to the regular schedule, now is the time to show your support!
As you probably noticed above, we have started a Women Only class on Saturday afternoons, starting at 2:00pm. Any women are welcome to attend. Sorry boys, you can attend the other 97% of classes, but this one you have to sit out!
And finally, there is currently no word on the exact arrival date of our greatly-anticipated new flooring. As mentioned previously, the studio will be closed for about 3 days for installation, but arrival is not expected before the middle of November...keep the fingers crossed, and eyes and ears posted for those updates!
See you in the heat!
What does a Challenge do for you?
We are nearing the start of our fall yoga classic 30 day challenge, and we've had some questions:
Why? Why do yoga everyday for 30 days?:
Why not? HA ha, just kidding.
1. The idea to practice everyday is not a new one. Many of you love the idea of it, but aren't quite motivated on your own to do it. So we get people excited, and you get support from your fellow yogis.
2. You have a chronic condition that just won't go away. You will never feel as good then if you try Bikram's series over and over, expecially the next day and next, no choice. Even when you feel "bad" or "too stiff" you will get over this, and you will be so happy you did.
3. Take your practice to the next level. If you have been feeling like you are on a plateau with postures, going everyday, your body will detox on a deeper level, releasing tensions, pent up emotions, and more. It's great to hit the so called "yoga wall", it's an amazing transformative experience.
4. You build strenghth, flexibility, lose weight, tone muscles, create a new sense of discipline, and overall, you feel and look totally amazing.
Bikram always says to do his series everyday for 3 months, and if your problems have not gone away, practice daily until they do, then, then only, take sundays off!
I have decided that Yoga challenges should go back to how they used to be. Cheaper!
Who wants in?
$60 ($55 for students) for 30 days.
That's $2 a day~ $2 a day to change your body, your mind, inside out
The BEST $2 you will ever spend...
You need to still bring in a deposit of $50. When you give up or circumstances get in the way, so be it. You finish and we invest your deposit into making this studio rock! What do you think? Who' s up to the challenge? One day left to sign up. extra daily routine kit to shine up your life $40. WOW.
